We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced General Superintendent to join our growing company. In this critical role, you will play a key part in directing and implementing operational programs that achieve high tonnage yields at low production costs while remaining in compliance with all safety and environmental programs.

  

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and manages several quarries, sand and gravel pits, wash plants, and crushing plants to optimize material production, drilling and blasting, quality control, maintenance and set-up.
  • Leads and manages the performance and schedules of team members, hires, trains, evaluates, develops, and retains a highly productive, staffed, and motivated workforce.
  • Develop, monitor, analyze and communicate various reports relevant to the efficient and safe operation of quarry/gravel pits, these may include blast reports, quarterly labor hours, production reports, and sales figures by site.
  • Manage compliance, recordkeeping, training, reporting, communication, audits, and site inspections for MSHA and IDNR compliance or other third parties. Act as the point of contact for MSHA and effectively managing related programs.
  • Managing third party contractor relationships and ensure timely and quality completion of the agreed work output with adherence to relevant regulations and safety standards. Negotiating vendor contracts and vendor selection process.
  • Oversees the equipment maintenance, ensures downtime is kept to a minimum and that team members are leveraging HCSS communication to track and maintain maintenance records. Leveraging data to identify opportunities to improve equipment’s useful lifetime and maximize outputs.
  • Plant maintenance - Negotiate part pricing and terms with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and favorable terms, monitor inventory levels and analyze data to forecast future parts needs, source parts from various vendors based on price, quality, and availability.
  • Participate in mine layout planning, including possible plant equipment needs, inspections, improvements to basic efficiencies.
  • Analyzes labor requirements, equipment needs, and operational costs to compute and prepare annual budget reports.

   

Required Education and Experience:

  • 10 years progressive experience in construction materials production
  • 5 or more years managing, evaluating, and developing direct reports
  • Completion of MSHA Miner Training

   

Preferred Education and Experience:

  •  Bachelors degree in construction, engineering, geology, or mining.
  • Working with construction industry technologies like HCSS/Heavy Job
  • Limestone drilling and blasting experience

   

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of various crusher types, and the ability to troubleshoot, adjust settings, and train staff on the equipment and it’s safe handling
  • Knowledge of vibrating screen types, performance limitations and efficiencies, troubleshooting and operational adjustments to achieve product gradation
  • Knowledge of wire cloth types and their best application
  • Skilled in negotiations with MSHA inspectors and paperwork,
  • Knowledge union environment
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze data, identify trends, and make informed decisions
  • State, Federal, and local laws and regulations governing safety, health and environmental and quality control and assurance principles and practices
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal teams, external suppliers, agencies, and customers; interact tactfully and courteously with the public
  • Using a computer and various business applications, including Aggflow and Microsoft suite of products.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
