Job Summary:

Reporting to the General Superintendent, the Superintendent will oversee the execution of private, city, town and DOT resurfacing and related projects. He or she will supervise field employees, order materials, and coordinate with customers and sales personnel to complete projects in accordance with Palmer Paving’s commitment to production, quality, and safety. This is a superintendent position in Heavy Highway Asphalt Paving industry. Prior experience is required.

Essential Functions:

1.      Protect family and friends. Maintain a Safety Culture that fosters a zero-incident environment for people to come to work every day and perform their best.  Communicate with openness, innovation, idea sharing, messaging and actions that keeps safety and first and foremost in people’s minds.

2.    Mastery. Utilize best paving practices and knowledge of heavy highway construction.

3.    Respect and engage. Communicate frequently and professionally with the General Superintendents, Foreman, and Project Managers to resolve problems or to coordinate activities.

4.    Measurement. Coordinate with scheduling and job level management to maximize crew size and equipment efficiency.

5.    Assist project team with conflict resolution between owner, contractor, and subcontractor.

6.    Provide guidance and development of hourly personnel to meet performance requirements. Identify and train individuals for advancement.

7.    Plan, coordinate, schedule and supervise on-site operations of site crews, and subcontractors, ensure efficient use of materials and equipment and that performance and quality objectives are met.

         

Requirements, Education and Experience:

1.     5+ years of relevant construction experience. Superintendent experience preferred.

2.     Extensive knowledge of construction operations.

3      Ability to read plans and specifications.

4.      Excellent Leadership skills.

5.      Thorough understanding of job cost.

6.      Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

7.      Computer skills including MS Office platform. It is expected that the Superintendent will develop knowledge of additional software platforms.

8.      Must have a valid driver’s license

9.     Authorized to work in the U.S.

Travel:

  1. This position requires regional travel.  It is anticipated that the majority of work will be in the Massachusetts region, although a wider geographic reach could be expected. 
  2. Must be able to accept out of town work and/or night and occasional weekend work.
 

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

This position is located in a construction environment. Heavy work that includes moving objects up to 50 lb. or more.  This position works on or near moving mechanical parts and loud equipment. Requires the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time as well as lifting, pulling, bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, walking, reaching, driving, and repetitive motion.
